Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils

I received this product from Influenster to try, and I could not be more giddy! YSL is a luxury brand I love, but do not buy often. The packaging is usually sleek and elegant and so far, I have not tried one product I absolutely dislike.

I am constantly looking for a mascara to give my puny lashes more oomph, and many times, a mascara will come up short. I either get minimal length or volume, or spidery lashes if I overdo it. My eyelashes are short and don’t hold a curl well with non-waterproof specific formulas.

Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is not a brand new mascara, but is a reformulated one. Which in my book is the same as new. The gold tube feels very posh and I adore the YSL imprint on it. The brush is a straight, full nylon fiber brush and has no clumps as I pull it out of the tube.

The mascara contains B5 pro-vitamin, which helps to thicken and strengthen lashes. The formula did not feel dry and black is undoubtedly a stark black.

I applied two thick coats of mascara to get the look in the after photo below. Look! I actually have lashes now! It’s not a true false-lash effect on me, but it definitely amped up the volume. Remember – my lashes are naturally short, so I was glad with the volume I did receive. I think another coat would have been way too heavy and clumpy, and 1 – 2 coats (depending on your lashes) is all you need.

Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils stayed on all day without flaking. I did notice a bit of smudging near the end of the day, but nothing I couldn’t wipe away. I have allergies and my eyes do water on occasion, so I’m always a bit hesitant to wear a non-waterproof formula. The only issue I had was the little bit of smudging, so I was relieved.

I was able to easily remove this mascara with my normal waterproof eye makeup remover. I use a gel formula, so I’m not sure if that made a difference.

This is a heavier formula, so if you have weak lashes like mine, they will droop. But I just use my heated eyelash curler after application to lift & curl my lashes again, use a brush to separate and I’m done.

I noticed on the YSL site that there is a waterproof version! I really like this mascara, but if my allergies go crazy one day (many days), I might end up with big black smears under my eyes. That is a maybe, but with my luck, why risk it? I’m definitely going to pick up the waterproof formula.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. My opinions in this post are my own and not affected by any press product.
