I’ve been wanting to try YSL Glossy Stain for a while, so on one of my Sephora shopping trips, I finally caved and chose Fuchsia Dore 14. I wanted a color that was bright, yet mellow enough for my work day.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain combines the shine of a gloss with a long-wearing stain. The pointed, slanted and flexible tip makes it easy to apply to your lips and allows me to reach all corners. It’s available in 24 colors at Sephora.
Glossy Stain is very lightweight and feels like almost nothing on my lips. One coat for each top and bottom lip is enough for full color, so I’m glad I don’t have to pack this on. It effortlessly just melts right into my lips.
Glossy Stain does not leave a sticky feeling, and yes – it stains your lips lightly once the glossiness fades. I can either leave as is for a pretty stain or reapply Fuchsia Dore or apply a clear gloss if I want shine. The gloss lasted for several hours, and the stain lasted alone for several hours more. It’s not a full color stain, but enough to keep your lips tinted without a touch-up.
The color of Fuchsia Dore is not what it seems. It starts off as a fun fuchsia color that looks pretty & bright, but after a minute or so, once it set into my lips, it morphes into this deeper berry shade. It looks completely different on my lips than in the tube.
There is some transfer, but very minimal. I can drink water without globs of color sticking to the cup, only small spots here and there. But when I eat a full meal and am not careful, most of the coloring does disappear, which is typical for me.
The scent is like a sweet red wine. It caught me off guard at first because I’m not a red wine person, but the scent faded after a short while. I really need to start drinking a glass or 2 of wine per day, as told to me by my eye doctor!
Overall, I really like YSL Glossy Stain for the longevity, but was not happy the color adjusted to a much deeper shade. I think next time I plan on purchasing another shade, I’ll swatch a few colors on my hand, walk around, then head back to the YSL section after the colors have time to oxidize.
