I can’t believe it has been 4 weeks since Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas. I feel like yesterday I was walking around the enormous venue chatting it up with so many amazing companies and brands. I’m already making plans for 2016’s event!
In future posts this week, I’ll also be sharing with you the cocktail receptions and parties I attended, and I’ll be spotlighting some of the great brands I met at Cosmoprof. Yes, this is Cosmoprof week at Beautzy Blog!
I don’t want to make this post too wordy, so I’ll try to cut what I can short.
What is Cosmoprof? Cosmoprof North America is a trade show for professionals in the beauty product business: distributors, manufacturers, buyers, etc. Over 1000 exhibitors from across the globe attend to make this the one beauty show to find out everything you need to know about the retail and production of the beauty business. I attended this event as press with fellow beauty blogger Liz at iheartoffbeat.com.
We arrived in Las Vegas Saturday afternoon and were able to attend the Cosmoprof VIP Welcome Reception at the Mandalay Bay, then Shine & Social nail reception at the connecting hotel, the Four Seasons. (More on these events tomorrow.)
We ended our night after Shine & Social and prepped for day 1 of Cosmoprof. I was nervous, but also pumped and enthusiastic for the show!
Cosmoprof Day 1
Wow is the best word to describe Cosmoprof! It was HUGE! There were over 1000 manufacturers, distributors, buyers and retailers spread out into various pavilions:
Cosmetics & Personal Care Pavilion – dedicated to the retail channels of the cosmetics industry including all skin, hair, nail, and tools for retail.
Packaging & Contract Mfg Pavilion – dedicated to the entire beauty industry production supply chain from raw materials to machinery, formulation to packaging, including contract manufacturing, private label, and business tools and POS systems.
Professional Beauty Pavilion – dedicated to the professional channels of the cosmetics industry including all skin, hair, nail, and tools/services for professional use in salons or spas.
We spoke with a ton of brands and learned about their products and some new releases. We were able to make appointments beforehand with several companies, and I’m glad we did because we had the opportunity to ask very detailed questions without feeling rushed.
Our first stop as Cosmoprof was the press room. We were able to go back there as needed to collect our thoughts, check out press kits or grab munchies (when available). We also got to see the brands participating in Beauty Pitch – a select chosen “one-of-a-kind opportunity to show off your unique brand style and gain exposure…” 100% Pure – one brand that I completely fell head over heels for at Cosmoprof – won Beauty Pitch and earned a one-year mentorship with Mark Cuban and $10,000!
The first booth we bee-lined toward after the press room was Kryolan, as that is one pro brand we are both fond of. During the day, I (and sometimes we) also stopped at Hey Honey, LightStim (I’m in love! I’ll share more about them this week.), Crown Brush, The Knot Dr., 100% Pure, Tony Moly, Doucce Cosmetics, and Serenity Cosmetics, among others. [Booth photos below post.]
We also made sure to stop by Boutique Powered by Cosmoprof, “a sampling bar showcasing deluxe premiums size samples from 20 brands.” I selected these samples below for a $10 donation:
After Day 1, we were wiped! But we also attended another cocktail party after Cosmoprof and headed to the Luxor for some gambling.
Cosmoprof Day 2
Day 2 was almost as busy as Day 1! After sneaking a peek into the press room and grabbing some coffee, we headed into the pavilions to continue our trek.
We stopped at Eye Kandy Cosmetics, Eylure, Ofra, Be A Bombshell, Manic Panic and most importantly Ittse – a new line of completely customizable fun & flirty makeup. I’ll be posting about Ittse this week as well.
We also stopped by Skinn Cosmetics and chatted with founder Dimitri James. Skinn focuses on what’s IN the jar and not the jar itself. The packaging isn’t fancy, but the products are made with high quality ingredients. I am supposed to be receiving a few samples within the next weeks, and I can’t wait to try them out. As much as I’m a complete sucker for awesome packaging, effective products will always win out.
We ended our visit at Cosmoprof and headed to another cocktail reception. Then, grabbed some delicious In N Out and headed back to the hotel, before continuing our 4-hour journey back home.
It was an informative, knowledgeable, fun, and tiring few days. I’ve been to many beauty conferences and beauty trade-shows in the past, but there is nothing quite like Cosmoprof. To see many aspects of the beauty business – from production and formulation to private label and retail – really opened my eyes about how beauty businesses function, evolve and prosper.
I made great connections, met new friends, and had a wonderful time during my Las Vegas trip. I cannot wait for 2016’s event.
Come back tomorrow for a recap of all the awesome cocktail parties!
